An Apulian Holiday at Osteria Ilaria

A one-off lunch hosted by wine expert Giorgio de Maria, with wines from a top Italian producer and a menu by Tipo 00, Osteria Ilaria and Hobart’s Fico.

Italy’s breezy southern region of Puglia – the “heel” of the boot, surrounded by ocean – is becoming increasingly well-known. Get a taste of the wine being produced there on March 1 at Osteria Ilaria.

Italian native (but Australian-based) wine expert Giorgio de Maria, who runs distribution and consultation company Fun Wines, has enlisted a big-name winemaker from the region – Cristiano Guttarolo – for the event.

He’ll be pouring bright and energetic wines from his current and back vintages, including local varietals such as verdeca, primitivo, negroamaro and susumaniello.

The five-course set menu has been tailored by the teams at Tipo 00, Osteria Illaria and one of Hobart’s best Italian restaurants, Fico. Highlights include potato focaccia with pickled sardines, burrata with heirloom tomatoes and shiraz dressing, spaghetti aglio e olio with sea urchin and bottarga, melanzane with taralli crumb, and a ricotta cake with figs and vincotto.
