How/where are you celebrating your birthday and with whom? “After a trip to see my in-laws in Austria, my husband and I will spend a few days at a beach resort in the Apulia region of Italy.”

How did you get your start in your career? “I started by working for my friends’ dad’s political campaign in my home state of Louisiana. He successfully ran for secretary of state and ultimately became lieutenant governor. I then worked at a boutique political consulting company, the Political Firm, in Baton Rouge, La., before an internship and other jobs led me to Washington.”

What’s an interesting book/article you’re reading now or you’ve recently finished? And why? “I just started reading Kevin Williamson’s ‘The Smallest Minority: Independent Thinking in the Age of Mob Politics.’ I’m turning 32, so most of my career has been during the age of Twitter. I’m dismayed by how little charity and mercy people show each other online, even seeking to destroy careers and lives over differences of opinion. My hope is that people eventually tire of this.”

What’s a trend going on in the U.S. or abroad that doesn’t get enough attention? “As a rule, I really do try my best to resist comparing the U.S. to other countries. But I’m utterly gobsmacked by how dedicated Democrats, especially most of their presidential candidates, are to extreme…
